About Fern Equipment.

Growing up here in Utah along the Wasatch front, the mountains have always been my backyard escape and adventure, from summer to winter. I have continued to pursue my passions and love for the outdoors ever since my first experiences from starting to snowboard to grinding my first box then my first rail and hitting that first kicker. I was always so stoked to get to the hills even if I could make it to the resort to get as many laps in before that last hour or two of sunlight. It has always been worth getting out.

Life goes on as it usually does and while it did, I considered the way I pack and carry my gear as a local. From packing my gear at home, to my car and then making that transition in the resort parking lot. Sometimes, while I'm in a rush to get my gear and go, I might have lost or forgotten some crucial items, like boots or gloves, which prevented me from enjoying my time on the mountain. This is a constant struggle.

In the past, I always used a pair of slip-on vans to slide in and out to make that transition into my boots a little easier. I would use my vans to balance on while getting boot on before I tipped over and dip my toe/foot in the wet parking lot. Having a wet foot is never a good start on a cold day. This problem led to the development of this bag idea to hold all my gear and also be multifunctional where you can stand on it as well. This concept and vision I had of this universal yet functional bag was an interesting idea. I knew I had to try it.

From sketches to more in depth design behind this bag, I began to understand as simple as this might be, there is a bit of engineering involved with a 2D design and keeping the structural integrity it needs. I began to understand very quickly that as simple as my idea was, there was a bit of proving this concept of the perfect bag. Once I made that first prototype I couldn't wait to take it to the mountain and begin the testing. From that initial iteration I was beyond stoked with how well it suited my needs and I have made a few modifications to enhance its purpose. The more I used it the more I fell in love with it and my mind went wild with all the different outdoor sports that I do where this same application would easily translate over.

I love my snow duffle bag. It has saved my life multiple times. It has allowed me to keep all my gear in one place at all times. Even better, it lays out totally flat where I can see everything I'm packing. If I can't see the gear, I assume I have it or I forgot it. This bag has literally changed the way I pack and pivot into that mindset of getting out and shredding. If there is something that is missing or something that needs to be looked over and revisited with this bag I would love to hear you out. I want to continue to develop and innovate fern equipment.
